Eduardo Rodríguez Rodway: adiós al último Triana original

El rock andaluz pierde a una de sus figuras fundamentales. Eduardo Rodríguez Rodway, guitarrista y miembro fundador de Triana, falleció el 26 de septiembre de 2026, a los 81 años, en el Hospital Universitario de Puerto Real (Cádiz). Con su muerte desaparece el último superviviente de la formación original que, junto a Jesús de la Rosa y Juan José «Tele» Palacios, cambió para siempre la historia del rock español al fusionar el rock progresivo con el flamenco y la música andaluza.

Pero la última etapa de Rodway estuvo marcada también por una larga disputa por el legado de Triana y, especialmente, por el uso del nombre del grupo. Tras la muerte de Jesús de la Rosa en 1983 y de «Tele» Palacios en 2002, Rodríguez Rodway cuestionó durante años que una nueva formación encabezada por el cantante Juan Reina continuara actuando bajo el nombre de Triana. El conflicto terminó en los tribunales y llegó incluso al Tribunal Supremo.

El pasado mes de agosto, el Supremo puso punto final al litigio al inadmitir el recurso presentado por Rodway y dejar firme la resolución anterior: el guitarrista no era titular de la marca Triana ni del conjunto de las canciones. Los tribunales señalaron que la marca había sido registrada por Juan José «Tele» Palacios y que Juan Reina había sido autorizado a utilizarla por sus herederos, especialmente por la viuda del batería.

Así termina una historia con una enorme carga emocional. Eduardo Rodríguez Rodway se marcha defendiendo hasta el final lo que consideraba el legado de aquella formación irrepetible, mientras que la justicia ha establecido quién puede utilizar legalmente el nombre Triana. Más allá de la batalla judicial, queda la música de aquellos tres sevillanos que en los años setenta crearon una de las páginas esenciales del rock andaluz.

El Señor X nunca ha ocultado tampoco su posición respecto a la continuidad de Triana. Para él, defender el legado de un grupo no significa necesariamente que tenga que quedar congelado en el tiempo. Desde su amistad con Juan Reina, entiende que la música de Triana debe seguir viva y que la formación actual tiene derecho a mantener sobre los escenarios aquellas canciones que forman parte de la historia del grupo. En uno de sus trabajos dedicados a Triana llegó a explicar que le honraba ser amigo de los actuales integrantes y defendió que la banda continuara llevando esas canciones por toda España.

Es una postura personal, nacida además de una relación de amistad que el Señor X ha mantenido durante años con Juan Reina. Y quizá por eso su visión de esta historia no se queda únicamente en los nombres, las marcas o las sentencias. Para él, lo verdaderamente importante es que Triana siga sonando.

La Justicia ha cerrado ahora una parte de la disputa. Pero las discusiones sobre el legado artístico, sobre quién representa a una banda histórica y sobre qué significa continuar una obra después de la desaparición de sus miembros originales probablemente seguirán existiendo entre los aficionados.

Eduardo Rodríguez Rodway se marcha dejando detrás una obra fundamental y una historia que forma parte inseparable del rock andaluz. Jesús de la Rosa se fue demasiado pronto. Tele continuó defendiendo su visión de Triana hasta el final de sus días. Juan Reina recogió posteriormente el testigo y continúa llevando esas canciones a los escenarios.

Y el Señor X, desde su particular archivo de la memoria musical, ha elegido también su posición: defender que el legado de Triana no muera y que siga vivo en las manos de quienes hoy lo llevan a los escenarios, entre ellos su amigo Juan Reina.

Porque los nombres pueden discutirse en los tribunales. Las marcas pueden registrarse. Los derechos pueden determinarse mediante una sentencia. Pero hay algo que ningún tribunal puede decidir: lo que una canción significa para quienes la escucharon por primera vez y siguen necesitando escucharla muchos años después.

Triana nació en Sevilla en 1974. Jesús se fue en 1983. Tele en 2002. Eduardo acaba de marcharse en 2026. Pero mientras alguien siga tocando y escuchando aquellas canciones, Triana seguirá formando parte de nuestra historia.
