Que a Mike Olfield le apetecía actuar en La Coruña estaba reiteradamente cantado y contado en los medios de comunicación que, en más de una ocasión, hicieron sonar las “tubular bells” de esta posibilidad tras la visita privada de Oldfield a la ciudad en  1991,  en la que conoció a Luar na Lubre  en una "folk sessión".
De hecho esta posibilidad rozó el techo de la realidad tras la aparición en 1996 del disco Voyager de Oldfield en el que se incluía una versión -- The Song of the Sun – de la canción de Bieito Romero O son do ar. Concierto que nunca jamás existió a pesar de que, efectivamente, se hubiera contactos por parte de Bieito Romero de Luar na Lubre y el Ayuntamiento encaminados a su celebración. Se intento ubicar el concierto primero en Riazor y más tarde en la Torre de Hércules pero, finalmente, el esperado concierto de Mike Olfield y Luar na Lubre , tuvo que esperar tres años más, cuando junto a The Corrs provocó en la vecina playa de Sta. Cristina – Oleiros un tsunami de gente.

Acerca del álbum, previo a su publicación David Gahan indicó en entrevista que buena parte de Spirit estaba hecha para ser tocada en concierto, algo no hecho desde 1994, pues a partir del álbum Ultra de 1997 comenzaron a tocar más bien solo parte de los álbumes a promocionar, optando principalmente por los temas más populares de su apogeo entre 1986 y 1993, aunque solo cinco temas de la colección han aparecido en los conciertos.​ Por su parte, Anton Corbijn realizó de nuevo los acompañamientos visuales para la gira.

This collection has 2 discs worth of material for this one, plus a "bonus" disc of demos.

Have to admit, although this was really fun compiling, it was also extremely difficult.  As most of you know, Prince's work during the 80s was voluminous, and a lot of it was unreleased, or released on different collections throughout the decades.  It wasn't so much of finding the music as it was identifying the proper era/session that it belonged to.  Of all of his releases, this one is probably the toughest.  Probably because you had to contend with the bootleg Black Album as well as all of the material for Sign O the Times (which is almost as bad.)  That being said, does the Black Album belong on it's own, or should the material be absorbed into the releases around it?  I still haven't figured that one out, yet.

After my love of Around the World In A Day, I had to get this album, and also see the accompanying film Under the Cherry Moon.  Well, yes, the movie sucked IMO, but the music was some of his best.  Along with the obvious singles, which were all some of his best, we also have Venus De Milo and Sometimes It Snows In April and Anotherloverholeinyohead and the list goes on.  At this time in my life, my love for this brand of Pop music was a secret hidden love (as my skater punk friends of the time wouldn't have approved) so I listened to this one mostly in my room, doing homework or reading comic books.  So, it is still an album that I listen to when I'm alone, or want some solace or during quiet times around our house.  To me, that's how it's meant to be, that's how I remember it.

Hey... I absolutely love the work you put into all of these albums. You did say however that if anything was wrong in the tracks we could mention and I found a couple ones. Crystal Ball, Dream Factory & All My Dreams were actually part of the unreleased Dream Factory sessions, which later became Sign o The Times, so they would part of that. Also The Black Album (at least most of it) probably should be absorbed into Sign o The Times as well, since most of the tracks were recorded during the Dream Factory / Sign o The Times sessions (except When 2 R In Love, which ended up on Lovesexy anyways...) But what do I know? It's your choice anyways. Just thought I would mention that. -Original

PODCAST La Cravana 4x01 - The Beatles - White Album (1968)

Como ya se ha convertido en tradición, comenzamos una nueva temporada (la cuarta ya) rindiendo homenaje a la música de los Beatles. ¡Qué mejor manera de empezar! 
En este 2018, celebramos el 50 aniversario de la publicación del álbum blanco de los Fab Four y lo único que podemos hacer es caer de rodillas ante tan magna obra. Tommy nos hablará de uno de los discos más emblemáticos de los cuatro de Liverpool, donde demostraron que eran capaces de seguir creando una música sublime aún cuando ya empezaban a sufrir el lastre de la fama y la lucha de egos asomaba el hocico por debajo de la mesa de mezclas de Abbey Road. Una etapa apasionante y un LP imprescindible. Teniendo en cuenta que el grupo ya había dejado de tocar en directo, en lugar de un bootleg en vivo el Señor X nos trae un documento único donde escucharemos la maqueta de un tema compuesto en aquella época (“Child of nature”) que Lennon no usó en ningún álbum de los Beatles y que posteriormente desarrolló para crear una de sus mejores canciones: Jealous Guy. Disfrutad de esta joya; muchos bothans han muerto para traer esta grabación. Todo esto y mucho más, aderezado con la (ya clásica en el programa) disputa entre Tommy y Mike LCR sobre si se escuchan mejor estos temas en mono o en estéreo. La fecha exacta es desconocida, pero a fines de mayo de 1968 The Beatles se reunieron en Kinfauns, el bungalow de George Harrison en Esher, Surrey. Allí grabaron versiones demo de varias canciones escritas en India, 19 de las cuales más tarde aparecieron en el álbum blanco.

Las 27 canciones que se cree que se grabaron en Kinfauns se grabaron en la grabadora de cinta de cuatro pistas Apelre de Harrison. En su mayoría los temas fueron agrupados por compositor, aunque las canciones de John Lennon estaban más dispersas durante todo el bootleg. Lo más probable es que se hayan grabado en este orden:

Cry Baby Cry: con una introducción y un final diferente de la versión del álbum 
Child Of Nature - inédito, pero más tarde se convirtió en el Jealous Guy
The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill: los otros Beatles hacen ruidos de animales
I'm So Tired, con un pasaje hablado ligeramente diferente
Yer Blues: John Lennon es "inseguro" en lugar de "suicida"
Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey, mucho menos acelerado que la versión de estudio
What's The New Mary Jane Incluido en Anthology 3
Revolución 1: carece del versículo 'dices que vas a cambiar la constitución'

La mayoría de las grabaciones fueron ampliamente pirateadas, aunque el lanzamiento de Anthology 3 resultó en versiones anteriores de las cuatro canciones finales. Las siete demos de Kinfauns incluidas en Anthology 3, con licencia para Apple de George Harrison, también fueron de mejor calidad que las bootlegs.

Es posible que no todos los demos se hayan grabado en Kinfauns, y se ha especulado que algunas fueron grabadas antes y despues llevadas a la casa de Harrison, pero una vez más, esto no esta claro.

De las canciones inéditas de The Beatles en 1968, quizás la más conocida es Child Of Nature. Esta fue inspirada por una conferencia Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Lennon luego reutilizó la melodía para Jealous Guy de 1971.

What's The New Mary Jane se basó en una melodía estilo rima infantil, y en el estudio se convirtió en una de las primeras composiciones de vanguardia de Lennon. Permaneció inédito hasta la Antología 3, a pesar de varios intentos de Lennon para que The Beatles o The Plastic Ono Band la lanzaran.

Dos de las canciones de Lennon, Mean Mr Mustard y Polythene Pam, fueron retenidas hasta 1969 para el album Abbey Road.

Solo una de las canciones de Paul McCartney, Junk, no fue lanzada por The Beatles, aunque volvieron a ella durante las sesiones de Get Back a principios de 1969. Se regrabo para  el primer álbum en solitario de McCartney.

A Harrison le fue peor, con tres de los cinco demos que no se incluyeron en el álbum blanco. Una versión de estudio de Not Guilty debería haber aparecido en ese disco, aunque finalmente se incluyó en Anthology 3. Circles, mientras tanto, no se publicó hasta el álbum en solitario de 1982 de Harrison Gone Troppo.
Sour Milk Sea fue entregado a Jackie Lomax. Fue su primer single más tarde en 1968, producido por Harrison con McCartney en el bajo y Ringo Starr en la batería.

No se sabe si alguna de las esposas o novias de The Beatles estuvo presente, aunque una voz femenina puede ser discernible en Revolution 1. Mal Evans y Derek Taylor también pueden haber contribuido en el bootleg.


Las demos fueron mezcladas en mono por Harrison, con copias entregadas a cada Beatle. El público en general los escuchó por primera vez a finales de la década de 1980 como parte de la serie de radio Lost Lennon Tapes.
